Hobby Connection Day - September 13, 2008

HobbyTown Reading’s fifth Hobby Connection Day was held on Saturday, September 13, 2008.

The day was filled with activities inside and outside of the store.  Dennis “Tiny” Haag conducted Estes Rocket building and launch classes in the parking lot and adjoining lot.  Ninety-Six rockets were built and launched.  Bryan Young of SCX was on hand demonstrating SCX’s digital slot car systems and Sports Car Club of America (SCAA) driver Darryl Shoff was on hand to show his Elan DP02 car, answer questions and take pictures of individuals in the cock pit and an RC race program took place on our dirt track.

In store activities included two Lego make n take classes and two Revell make n take classes where an Apache Helicopter and 34 Ford Coupe were built.  Visits by the Phillie Phanatic and the Reading Royals’ Slapshot kept visitors entertained.

WEEU 830 AM Radio broadcast live from the parking lot from 8:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.  Jack Holcomb, Nick Lawrence and Mike Faust were on hand.

Concessions were provided by Boy Scout Troop 160 and a moon bounce was provided by Ozzy’s Sports Fun Center.

Drawings were held for over $3,300 in merchandise.  Prize winners are listed below.  Children were provided with balloons, balsa gliders, aeroprops and pull back Scions courtesy of Toysmith.

This year’s event was our largest attended and again we received numerous comments from parents about the day and what it meant to their children.
